The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz

The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz, author of the erotic bondage series, The Original Sinners, is a departure from her previous work and while that may throw some readers off; it is in fact a celebration of a writer spreading her wings and showing us her skill and talent as a master storyteller.

Cooper McQueen meets an exotic and mysterious woman who calls herself Paris and spends the night with her. When he awakes he finds his prized bottle of bourbon missing. A bottle that is worth millions of dollars. The bottle comes from a now gone distillery, Red Thread Bourbon, operated by the Maddox Family. A distillery that began during the times of the Civil War and then went out of business for reasons no one seems to know. No one but Paris. She claims that the bottle belongs to her, as the remaining rightful heir.

Maddox is intrigued and agrees to not call the police, the price of this, Paris must explain how the bottle is hers. What follows is a story that spans 150 years. A tale of lurid incest and rape and slavery and the rise and fall of the Maddox family. It ends with the story of Tamara Maddox, heiress to the distillery and her desire to destroy it.

Tamara has lived a sheltered and privileged life. But it all comes to a head one day as she is caught in the arms of the young man who cleans and cares for her horses. Her mother demands that her grandfather, patriarch of the Maddox family, “take her down a peg”. But what happens between Tamara and her grandfather goes much further than a reprimand. Tamara is horrified to learn the truth behind her family and her legacy in it. A family that is rooted in corruption and immorality. Tamara decides that her only option is to elope with the one man she loves, but even that act may end in horror and she finds the branches of her family tree stretch much further than she can ever imagine.

Reisz deftly unfolds a tale of family and power and the absolute corruption of it all. It is rooted in the days of slavery and the deep rooted privilege of the power of a man and his money. The Maddox family bleeds bourbon and in their desire to keep and control their fortune, they find themselves willing and capable of doing anything.

The Bourbon Thief is a complex tale of family, power and revenge. Reisz has made a well deserved name for herself as a writer of erotica. In the Bourbon Thief she proves that she is far more than a gifted writer of erotica. She is a storyteller. And a damn good one.

Read the Bourbon Thief. You will love it. Come for the sex, you will stay for the story!

  1. Well, for one, I love the cover. And two, this sounds like a promising story — added to my TBR. (I swear that’s all I’ve been doing today. I don’t know if I’ll get round to reading them all.)
